Abstract : | Normal development of the secondary palate in CL/Fr strain mouse is briefly mentioned. The variable types of cleft lip and palate of the fetuses of CL/Fr strain are studied histologically. A very rare unilateral cleft lip case combined with a cleft in the hard palate, but no cleft in the soft palate is found in this strain. The post-fusion rupture of the lip and palate for cleft formation in mice is suggested and briefly discussed from the standpoints of: 1) patterns of clefts: Simonart band and a cleft in the hard palate, 2) relation of the nasopalatine duct to a cleft, 3) epithelial healing in the fetal period. Cleft formation in mouse is different from that in man in the following points: 1) no epithelial strings or pearls in the affected palate in mice, 2) no remnants of nasopalatine ducts related to a cleft in the lip. |
