Abstract　： 1. The majority of past reports on recurrent stomatitis concerned ones ascribable to systemic cause. Here is reported a case of recurrent cheilitis not ascribable to any systemic cause. This inflammatory disease, without finding out the cause, has been treated unsuccessfully in various hospitals for the past several years. 2. The onset was about five years ago, and used to recur at monthly intervals in winter, and 3-4 times a month in summer. 3. The symptoms were the same each time, being neither intensified nor weakened gradually with the lapse of time. The present case was a healthy male, aged 30, and had never suffered from any systemic disease. He reacted more strongly than ordinary men to insect's sting. Topical findings: Owing to erythematous inflammation, the lower lip was swollen and manifested indistinctly demarcated redness. The epithelium was desquamated, partly forming crust (see photo). The inflammation was less intense on the inner side (mucosa) of the lower lip. No inflammation was observed on the upper lip.
