Abstract : [Abstract] The effect of yellowish eosin solution on solid tumors was investigated in mice with transplanted Ehrlich ascites tumor cells. When the eosin solution was repeatedly injected into a solid tumor, tumor lysis occurred at the locus where the agent was injected. Following the eosin treatment, an increase in internal pressure of the tumors occurred as well as continuous digestion of the tumor tissue, softness of the locus, formation of a sinus in the tumor and production of a pus-like substance while necrosis of the tumor also developed. Therefore, tumors treated with eosin solution were reduced with an antitumor agent and an increase in the survival time and survival from the tumor were observed. Antitumor activity effectively developed with a series of injections of 0.1-1.0% eosin solution. In the in vitro experiment, when the tumorcells were suspended in the eosin solution, numerous cytoplasmic vacuoles developed on the surface of the tumor cells an hour after suspension and effective concentration of the eosin solution in the vacuolate was 0.05-1.0%.
