Abstract　： Although porcelain fused to metal crown is considered to be a better restoration method for the veneer crown, the thermosetting resin veneer crown has also come to be accepted recently by many dental practioners due to the remarkable improvement in its quality and technical procedures. Esthetic requirement is an important factor in conjunction with morphology and function for veneer crowns and various metals are used. Fig.1 shows the incisal and proximal views of an anterior veneer crown. In this pilot study, evaluations were conducted to make a comparison of 18 k gold with palladium as two typical metal bases for veneer crowns. Thermoresin was selected as a test piece and comparisons of six different opaque materials varied in individual shade numbers such as Nos. 102, 104, 106, 108, 112, and 114 were made with the various thickness of opaque layers ranging from 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, and 0.4 mm by using the Dental Color Meter (OFC-type III). Three consecutive measurements of each test piece were performed and their mean value was plotted on a CIE Color Diagram which is shown in a detailed explanation in the chart (Fig.2).
