| Abstract : | [Abstract] This article primarily deals with a review of the so-called "Posselt's Figure (or Diagram)", which is commonly known as a standard display of the mandibular border movements and is based on Posselt's doctoral thesis which was published in 1952. The authors re-evaluated the significance of this figure from the aspect of occlusal education. Furthermore, we discussed the following three major items related to occlusion: Part I - Approach to occlusion, Part II - Interrelation of basic occlusal and mandibular positions, and Part III - Function and dysfunction of occlusion in the stomatognathic system (SGS). In conclusion, a perspective on some problems in teaching the principles of occlusion for undergraduate students is also presented in this paper. |
