| Abstract : | [Abstract] Lipopolysaccharides (LPSs) were extracted from the following periodontopathic bacteria; 1) Bacteriodes gingivalis (381), 2) B.intermedius (20-3), 3) B.melaninogenicus (ATCC 15930), 4) Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans (Y-4), 5) Capnocytophaga species (M-12), 6) Eikenella corrodens (1073) and 7) Fusobacterium nucleatum (ATCC 25586). LPSs were extracted by the hot phenol-water method as a water soluble material, and recovered with 0.70-4.43% of the bacterial dry weight. LPSs from Bacteroides has a lower pyrogenic activity than other genera and C.species LPS had the lowest activities. Constituents of each LPS were analyzed after a reduction with SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. The electrophoretic pattern suggested that the LPS was constructed with some subunits in some rule. |
