Abstract : | [Summary] Titanium is a very reactive metal and is always covered with a thin but very stable natural oxide film, which makes it one of the most corrosion resistant and biocompatible metals. The surface structure and topography of final titanium products are chemically and physically modified with a process of fabrication and subsequent surface treatments which may affect the biocompatibility of titanium products for biomedical use. In this paper, the application of new technology with discharging in an electrolyte to a predictable surface modification of structure and topography, and ceramic coatings were mainly described. The effect of both chemical structure and physical topography of the surface of titanium on biocompatibility is still a challenge for the future. |
