Abstract : | Recently, considerable attention has been directed toward cell adhesion (Table 1) to understand the morphogenesis of oral tissues and the disease processes as well as the regenerative mechanisms of the periodontium. Cell adhesion molecules distributed in a plasma membrane are well known to play important roles in a series of processes which directed the behaviors of cells, such as cell migration, attachment, proliferation and differentiation, and cell-cell communication. The cell adhesion proteins (factors) composed with extracellular matrix (ECM) components in anchoring cells are generally believed to have evolved as a response to mechanical forces acting on connective tissues. |
