Abstract : | [Abstract] In the last several years, progress has been made in the understanding of the cementum components that regulate the cell migration, adhesion and growth of mesenchymal cells in the periodontium. Among these cells, cell adhesion molecules may recruit the right cell type for periodontal regeneration. Cell-matrix interaction is necessary to provide cell migration to the wound site, proliferate and differentiate the specific cells. In the course of regeneration, the cementum components seem to select the cementoblastic cells from periodontal ligament progenitors. The selected progenitors bind these matrices through integrin, a cell surface receptor for the extracellular matrix, and these complexes can transduce the variety of signals along pathways which may lead to cementoblast differentiation. |
