Abstract : | [Abstract] A new design of the Utility-Arch, the Z-mechanics Utility-Arch (UA), is introduced. The unique effect of this wire is that the lingual movement of the four incisors and the distal movement of the first molars is able to occur simultaneously. In Z-mechanics UA, the basic Utility-Arch form is modified. The buccal section is slightly lengthened and the following five bends are added. : 1) Tip back bend at the posterior vertical step. 2) Artistic bend at the anterior section. 3) Downward bend at the anterior vertical step. 4) Out bend at the anterior vertical step. 5) Toe-in bend at the posterior vertical step. The Z-mechanics UA is considered to be most applicable for treating a Class II division 1 malocclusion in late mixed dentition. A typical case in which the Z-mechanics UA was applied is presented and the mechanical principle of this wire is discussed. |
