Abstract : [Abstract] As a means of identifying the effects of the stomatognathic system of the human body, we fabricated splints and investigated changes in the pain threshold values of a total of 10 Meridian points on the shoulders and upper and lower body extremities before and after attaching the splints to the test subjects. As a result, a tendency was observed in which attaching a splint increases the pain threshold value and removal of the splint decreases it. It is considered that attaching a splint has three effects which are the elevation of the occlusal vertical dimension, variations of tapping and bruxing movement and the mental effects of the splint attachment. However, as the threshold values of some measuring points do not vary whether a splint is used or not and the variation in the occlusal vertical dimension is set as low as 0.5mm with this test, it seemed to be inferred that variations of tapping and bruxing movement also results in changes in the pain threshold values.
