Abstract : | The effects of a supplement containing naturally occurring calcium phosphate (salmon bone powder) and vitamin K2 (Menaquinone 7) extracted from fermented soybean yeast on the trabecular structure in the distal part of the femur were examined using ovariectomized mice. For assessment of the bone trabecular structure, the extracted femora were analyzed three-dimensionally by micro-CT with regard to bone structural parameters. As a result, the bone trabecular structure was better preserved in the SBP-2% Ca group than in the CC-2% Ca control group. In the SBP-5% Ca group, the trabecular structure was similar to that in the CC-2% Ca group, and no further improvement was noted. The state of the bone trabecular structure in SBP-2% Ca + VK2 group was also better than that in the SBP-2% Ca group. These results indicate that a supplement of powdered salmon bone and VK2 is effective for preventing deterioration of the bone trabecular structure in OVX mice. |
