Abstract : [Abstract] In the oral cavity, a complex environment is produced with saliva, food, occlusal forces, and so on. A crown installed in the oral cavity should be always physically stable. In this light, we examined the metallic composition and the state of distribution in seven cases of crown installation. The study included qualitative and quantitative fluorescent X-ray analyses of the margin surfaces, and the occlusal surfaces on the buccal side and the lingual side of the crowns. This indicated that crowns with a principal ingredient of silver or copper showed discoloration and decreased integrity regardless when they had been installed. However, crowns composed of gold alloy were stable. [Introduction] The environment inside the oral cavity changes constantly, depending on saliva production, the food that is eaten, the number of cigarettes smoked, the amount of alcohol consumed, pH, etc. Also, when occlusal force is considered as another parameter, an even more complicated environment is generated inside the oral cavity.
