Abstract : | [ABSTRACT] Changes in sleep disorders were compared for 113 adults that had received correction of the epiglottis and larynx (CGL), as measured by the Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS) and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Inquiry was conducted twice, before and one month after CGL, for each patient. The average values of ESS before and one month after CGL were 11.6 +- 4.8 and 6.2 +- 6.0 (p<0.001), respectively. Those of PSQI were 6.4 +- 3.1 and 3.9 +- 2.9 (p<0.001), respectively. Remarkable improvements were observed by PSQI in sleep quality, sleep latency, sleep disturbance, habitual sleep efficiency and daytime dysfunction. In addition significant differences were observed in decrease of apnea index and increase of arterial oxygen saturation rate by portable sleep monitoring one month after CGL. These results suggest that CGL is an effective treatment for sleep disorders. [INTRODUCTION] Symptoms and signs in adults affected by ADEL are headache, stiffness of the shoulders, cold feeling of the extremities, fatigue, snoring, and drowsiness during daytime. |
