Abstract : There is still no certain knowledge of the precise mechanisms by which the various trace elements may act on the tooth. The effect of trace elements, in combination with fluorine, on synthesis of apatite was studied. Trace elements used in this experiment were as follows: lithium, strontium, cadmium, boron, aluminum, vanadium, molybdenum, manganese and cerium. Apatite synthesis was done by the adding of Ca(OH)2 to H3PO4, in which contains a constant level of fluorine (1 ppm F) and various contents of trace elements. Finally, X-ray diffractometry, Ca and P analysis were done. There are no trace elements which promote the apatite synthesis and/or improve the apatite crystallinity, in combination with fluorine; rather crystallinities of apatite are deteriorated by most trace elements.
