Abstract : [Abstract] A one-year study was carried out on 229 children, 6 to 11 years old, and on 160 children, 12 to 13 years old, to evaluate the caries-preventive effect by mouth rinsing with 0.05% sodium fluoride solution. Both experimental and placebo groups rinsed the mouth daily with experimental or placebo solutions after the lunch supply every school-day except Saturday. After one year of investigation, the significance of caries reduction in the experimental group, estimated in a test on the basis of the differences between the mean caries increments in both experimental and placebo groups, was found. Furthermore, significant differences also were found between experimental and placebo groups in a chi-square test.
