Abstract : Several important requirements exist in successful anterior prosthetic restorations. One of the dominating factors is sufficient rigidity of the jacket and veneer crowns against functional loadings in the mouth because the fracture in a part of crowns is occasionally one of the troubles encountered in clinical prosthodontics. Incidentally, laser holography has many advantages in dental research, since experiments can be conducted without destruction and in three dimensions. The principles of holography were discovered by Gabor in 1948 and when the light source was applied to holography by Leith and Upatnieks in 1963, practical application of holography became possible for three dimensional recording of the objects. Since the authors have admitted the characteristics of laser holography, a pilot study was made to evaluate the efficiency of its application in our project as follows : A brass die was constructed by duplication of an epoxy right central incisor as the abutment tooth in a conventional manner for this expeirment. A stressing device was prepared and calibrated to allow precise application of the load under fixation of the test piece.
