Abstract : [Abstract] The effects of perhexiline, propranolol and dichloroisoproterenol (DCI), on left ventricular function, myocardial oxygen consumption, left ventricular work, coronary flow, and myocardial efficiency were comparatively studied in the modified heart-lung preparations of intact, ganglionectomized and reserpinized dogs. Left ventricular function curves were not altered by all three agents in the three preparations. Coronary flow was increased while myocardial work-load was slightly decreased only by perhexiline. Myocardial efficiency was also increased only by perhexiline. These cardiac effects of perhexiline may be useful factors for its use in relief of angina pectoris.
