Abstract : [Abstract] Seventeen human fetuses with cleft lip with/or palate associated with ocular anomalies were studied microscopically. The associated external and visceral anomalies of these fetuses were also studied macroscopically. The relations of cleft lip or palate formation to the associated anomalies and pathogenesis of these malformations were discussed. Cleft lip or palate is not just an isolated malformation, but is part of one or more syndromes affecting ocular, visceral and external features alike. Some sorts of viruses are probably responsible for cleft lip or palate formation.
