Abstract : [Abstract] A study on production of a specific antibody against Streptococcus mutans E49 was carried out in rabbits. The maximum titer of the circulating antibody was 1 : 256 (agglutinating titer in 5 minute incubation) for immunizing the rabbits in several ways. That is to say, for producing the level of antibodies it was necessary to give 2.5-5 mg antigen (mg/nitrogen) doses in cell debris saline suspension treated with incomplete Freund adjuvant method as a primary injection. After an interval (five weeks), at least three booster shots were required for three weeks and intravenous injection was better than subcutaneous route for obtaining the level. In this case, 5 to 10 mg antigen was required per injection. The produced antibody reacted with the antigen in gel agar diffusion tests (Ouchterlony test and immunoelectrophoresis) and three precipitating lines developed, proving that three components were presented mainly in the antigen.
