Abstract : | Tooth preparation for the various crowns is one of the most common routine procedures in the prosthetic clinic. Tylman et al. mentioned that one of the objectives of tooth preparation is preservation of the existing healthy tooth structure. All preparation designs should enhance the resistance and retention force of the classic preparations. Parallelism provides the most effective means of opposition to displacement. From a clinical viewpoint, over-reduction of the tooth should be prevented so that minimum damage is caused by grinding. However, a clinical study by Aoki et al. has shown that there are remarkable differences in proper tooth preparation due to the duration of individual previous experiences. These results showed a statistical significance. The authors also admit that there are various factors which should be considered for proper preparation of abutment teeth. Therefore, from practical and educational viewpoints, a parameter was developed for attachment to the shank head of air-turbines, as shown in Figs.1 and 2. |
