Abstract : [Abstract] Eighty-nine extracted front teeth with uncompleted root formation from puppies were used. Four groups consisting of 36 extracted teeth were kept in a saline solution for 5, 60, 180 minutes and 24 hours respectively before replantation. In 27 extracted teeth the pulp was extirpated for root canal-filling before replantation, whereas the remaining 62 teeth were replanted without root canal-filling. One, 7, 15, 30, 60 and 90 days after operation the animals were sacrificed for histological examination. In the pulp of the replanted teeth which were left in a saline solution from 5 min to more than 60 min, cell infiltration increased depending on the length of time the tooth was kept in a saline solution and calcareous degeneration and secondary dentin formation took place more frequently in cases where the teeth were left in a saline solution for 5 min. Reconstruction of the principal fibers of the periodontal ligament was better in cases with root canal-filling than in those with intact pulp. Alveolar bone resorption took place more frequently in cases with root canal-filling which were left in a saline solution for 30 min than in those left for more than 60 min. Root resorption took place more frequently in cases with root canal-filling which were left in a saline solution for more than 60 min than in those left for less than 30 min before replantation.
