Abstract : | [Abstract] The culture of human periodontal ligament fibroblast (HPLF) and human alveolar bone cell (HABC) was established, maintained and characterized with respect to the alkaline phosphatase (ALPase) activity which is a marker enzyme of the bone cells. During the proliferative phase, ALPase of HPLF and HABC was not detectable. But at the confluent stage, HPLF did synthesize considerably a high ALPase similar to HABC. Therefore, ALPase of HPLF was very similar to the ALPase present in the osteoblast. This finding suggests that HPLF could be termed as a osteoblastic fibroblast. |
