Abstract : [Abstract] Nine human fetuses and embryos ranging in age from 39 days to 11 weeks were used. The samples were fixed in 10% neutral formalin. Except for an 8-week embryo and a 9-week fetus which were cut sagittally, the frontal serial sections were made 7 to 18μm thickness and stained with the H-E or Azan method routinely. For all of the samples two-dimensional graphic reconstructions were made to observe the distribution of labial muscles. The following results were obtained: The mdao develops earliest among the labial muscles. The anlagen of mdao and moo are identifiable as a group of immature myoblasts at the stage of 20mm and 25mm in CRL, respectively. The analgen of mllsan and mlls, and those of mzma and mzmi are identifiable as a group of immature myoblasts at the stage of 28mm in CRL. The anlagen of mb, mlao, mn, mr and mds are identified as a group of myoblasts at the stage of 25mm, 28mm, 37mm, 45mm and 45mm in CRL, respectively. The median union of bilateral moo takes place in the 9th week. The mdao and mlao become myofibrils in the 11th week.
