Abstract : [Abstract] The topical fluoride application is an established caries preventive procedure and, in Japan, the acidulated phosphate fluoride solution is most popularized as a topical fluoride agent. In the near future, however, fluoride gel will be a more popular agent because of its convenience. Therefore, it is necessary for dental clinicians that the drawing-up of guidelines for the use of fluoride gel products should be initiated. In view of the safety, he fluoride products applied should not be swallowed if possible by patients. The amounts of fluoride gel applied, retained or overflowed in the dental study model were estimated through several kinds of fluoride application techniques. Clinical usefulness was suggested in the fluoride gel application techniques using the custom-fitted tray and/or disposable sponge tray.
