Abstract : A group of authors got the results of a previous experiment, in which when Stre. mutans was cultivated in a medium (triptic soy broth, TSB) containing sodium alginate (Naalginate), the survival period of the organisms was prolonged. In this experiment, when Stre. mutans cultivated in TSB containing Naalginate and CaCl2, as the survival period of the organisms was prolonged much more longer than the cultivation in TSB containing Na-alginate, then it observed the survival days of the bacteria in the medium. Experimental materials and methods : TSB (trypticase peptone 17.0 g, phytone peptone 3.0 g, sodium chloride 5.0 g, dibasic potassium phosphate 2.5 g, glucose 2.5 g in one liter, pH 7.3) was used as the basic medium. The experiment was carried out on four groups as shown in Table 1. A 50 ml medium was poured into glass tubes of 3 cm in diameter. Bacteria and cultivation : Stre. mutans E49 (0.1 ml of 16 hours preculture in TSB) was put into each medium and continuously cultivated at 36℃.
