Abstract : [Abstract] An attempt was made on the age estimation based on the D/L ratio of L-aspartic acid (L-Asp) to D-Asp in acetic acid-soluble peptide (SP) of the dentine. The correlation between the Asp-D/L ratio and actual age gave an almost proportional value for total amino acids as control (TAA, r=0.996, σ=+-1.2) and SP extracted with 5M acetic acid (r=0.995, σ=+-1.3), followed by SP extracted with 2M acetic acid (r=0.990, σ=+-1.9) and 1M acetic acid (r=0.953, σ=+-4.0) in a decreasing order. The racemization reaction rate was accelerated in the order as follows: Soluble fractions with 1M acetic acid > 2M acetic acid > 5M acetic acid > TAA. The above results indicate that SP extracted with 5M acetic acid is useful like TAA for an accurate age estimation from the teeth.
