Abstract : [Introduction] Pain is an eternal problem for every type of medical therapy. The trigeminal nerve is one of the most important nerves of pain perception and this nerve is also the most important nerve in the field of oral medicine. Irritation of the trigeminal nerve not only produces severe pain but also evokes the Reilly syndrome due to trigeminal irritation, i.e., hemorrhage in various organs of the whole body caused by microcirculatory disturbances. Although the Reilly syndrome is meaningful in oral medicine, its importance in clinical practices is not widely recognized. We will describe first experiments on the mechanism of the Reilly syndrome due to trigeminal irritation and then the inhibitory effects of a herbal mixture, TJ-960. In our former experiments on epilepsy, TJ-960 showed very favorable effects on the survival of neurons and normalizing effects on developmental defects in the mutant El mouse, in addition to anticonvulsant effects. We will also discuss some of these effects and the mechanism of action of TJ-960 on the nervous system. [The Reilly Syndrome] The Reilly syndrome was discovered by a French doctor, Jean Reilly, in 1834.
