Abstract : [Abstract] An increase in aged patients has been seen in dentistry for the handicapped as well as in dentistry for normal patients. These patients suffer from one or more disorders, and some drugs are prescribed for them by their physicians. Dentists should be aware of those prescribed agents, because they may modify patients' physical and/or mental conditions, may disturb dental treatments, may manifest their side effects in the oral tissues or functions. In this survey, 112 patients over 60 years of age, who visited the Clinic of Dentistry for Special Patients of Kanagawa Dental College Hospital, were covered and the complicated disorders, the numbers of drug generics per capita prescribed by physicians, the sorts of generics were surveyed from the patient protocols. Most patients were taking 4 to 7 drugs and there was one patient taking 12 drugs. The total drug generics amounted to 155 sorts. Circulatory and central nervous drugs occupied about a quarter, and they were prescribed for most of the patients.
