Abstract : [Introduction] Osteomyelitis is a progressive inflammation of bone and marrow. It often occurs in the jaw as a result of odontogenic infection, trauma, postoperative infection of tooth extraction, infection of a cyst or tumor, hematogenous dissemination from a remote area of infection, and radiotherapy. Osteomyelitis of the jaw occurs more frequently in the mandible, especially in the sites of mandibular body and mandibular angle. Recently, there has been an increase in the number of patients suffering from chronic mandibular osteomyelitis in contrast to a decrease in those with acute osteomyelitis. The radiographic features of chronic mandibular osteomyelitis are complex and vary from patient to patient, according to the stage of the disease, and the site ; even in the same patient. The disease is mostly resistant to antibiotic chemotherapy and surgical treatment. This is due to the disturbance of blood supply in the lesion. However, there have been no studies to investigate the vascularity and the condition of blood supply in these lesions.
