Abstract　： [Abstract] The multifactorial lesions of pediatric periodontal diseases develop and progress due to the mutual influences in the various factors of the daily environment. However, the correlations between these various factors have not yet been sufficiently clarified and in particular for infants, many aspects remain obscure. In the present study we conducted an investigation using a questionnaire and performed oral examination on 85 infants aged eighteen months and 120 infants with an age of three years and six months. In these children we investigated the correlation between pediatric gingivitis and environmental factors and added a survey of statistical results based on the multivariate analysis. The results showed a high incidence of patients with gingivitis both among the eighteen months old infants and the three years and six months old children. Among external criteria the GI and PLI were correlated closest, and the involvement of some dentition related factors was also observed. Yet, among items pertaining to oral hygiene habits, there was only slight correlation with both the habit and frequency of toothbrushing. Moreover, based on the class II quantitative theory, the population of test subjects could be divided into two groups.
