Abstract : [Abstract] As a means of identifying the effects that the stomatognathic system has upon the human body, we fabricated splints and conducted four types of tests to investigate homeostatic functions to determine any changes in equilibrium functions between before and after the attachment of splints. The attachment of a splint reduced the fluctuation center excursion along the X axis, brought down the unit time tracing length in the CG fluctuation test, no falls happened in the Mann test, excursion decreased in the Gait Test, and the rotation angle decreased in the Stepping Test. The test results showed that the attached splints improve equilibrium by elevating the occlusal vertical dimension, varying tapping and bruxing movements, and that wearing these devices gives some psychological effects. However, the change in equilibrium functions was considered to be the result of the interplay of all of these effects. These findings indicate that equilibrium function is influenced by the stomatognathic system.
