Abstract : Thirty years have passed since the introduction of implants into dental clinical practice, and implants have become a well-established form of dental treatment. Dental work with implant therapy cannot be performed without a cooperative effort among individuals in dental science, clinical dentistry, and even those in related fields of medicine. The history and background of implants has been established on the basis of data compiled from research in basic dental science. Branemark, a Swedish anatomist, discovered the contact between titanium and bone while observing microcirculation in the bone marrow of rabbits. This finding was later applied to dentistry in an implant, and the word "osseointegration" was coined.
