Abstract : [Abstract] Unique combination of multiple ion channels is functioning in osteocytes to receive and process mechanical stimuli. We identified 1) epithelial-like Na channel (ENaC) and 2) a splice variant of the functional subunit α1C of the voltage dependent L-type channel in osteocytic calvarial cell population. Differentiation of osteocytes that accompanies loss of proliferation and development of extensive cell processes are essential to their unique mechanical responses.
