Abstract : [Abstract] Research papers about stress-induced cervical lesions published during the past decade have prompted dental clinicians to recognize "stress factor" as part of the etiology of non-carious cervical lesions. However, the possible association between occlusion and non-carious cervical lesions has not received sufficient attention. Occlusion and occlusal guidance might contribute most significantly to understanding the "stress" which creates abfractive lesions. The lack of disclusion of the posterior teeth on both the working and the non-working sides during eccentric grinding potentially leads to an increased activity of the masticatory muscles and parafunctional activity. Sequential guidance occlusion with canine dominance, in which occlusal guidance harmonizes with the incline of the condylar path, as a therapeutic occlusion has the possibility of reducing the parafunctional activity of bruxism, which causes stress-induced cervical defects, and minimizing stress concentration in the cervical region of the teeth.
