Abstract : [Abstract] Peripheral functions of the mouth and teeth are becoming more important subjects in contemporary dentistry, because there has been an increasing number of patients who complain of vague symptoms related to occlusal function. The diagnosis of occlusion-related syndrome should be based on a keen consideration of the background of the symptoms, and the diagnostic process should focus not only on the occlusion and oral function, but also on posture and the function of the somatic system. Audiogram and center-of-gravity analyses are useful for the evaluation of the functional quality of the masticatory system. Interestingly, in some cases of damaged hearing ability and vertigo, patients experienced relief after receiving occlusion-related treatment. Thus, general malaise can be reduced by appropriate treatment of the occlusion.
