Abstract : [Abstract] We investigated the influence of ozonized water against periodontium derived cells. Human periodontal ligament fibroblasts (HPLFs), human gingival fibroblasts (HGFs), and human gingival epithelium cells (HGEs) were cultured to confluent condition, which cells were stained by the fluorescein diacetate-propidium iodide (FDA-PI) double-staining procedure after treatment of ozonized water. Also the influence to suspended cell was evaluated by adherent cell number after treatment of ozonized water indirectly. The cytotoxic effect of ozone was recognized with suspension cells conspicuously, which was slight in plate culture cells. These results suggested that the effect of ozonized water was influenced by environment factors which were extracellular matrix (ECM) and serum in the culture medium. Therefore, ECM and serum in the living organization may reduce the cytotoxic effect of ozone.
