Abstract : | [Abstract] We evaluated the polymerization inhibition of popular silicone impression materials that come into contact with the disposable gloves that are routineiy used in Kanagawa Dental College Hospital. The compatibility of combinations of silicone impression materials and disposable gloves are described. The degree of polymerization inhibition after both direct and indirect contact was visually assessed. Polymerization of all silicone impression materials except the condensation-reaction type (Flexicon ; GC TOKYO, JAPAN) was inhibited by contact with latex gloves. In contrast, vinyl gloves caused no such inhibition. Consequently, the use of vinyl gloves in our hospital was recommended in order to avoid inhibiting polymerization. If other factors mandate the use of latex gloves, then the preferable silicone impression material is the condensation-reaction type (Flexicon). |
