Abstract : | Symptoms of the ADEL (Ankyloglossia with Deviation of the Epiglottis and Larynx) in babies include : frequent hard crying, dakiguse (whereby they always want to be in someone's arms and did not stop crying until they are held), easy awakening, They awoke very easily. They have suckling difficulties. These symptoms can make childcare difficult. Between April fourth 2002 and April third 2003 we operated five hundred sixty seven babies with ADEL. At the first consultation, the laryngeal polyp was observed in 7.3% of them. 97.5% of the laryngeal polyps disappeared after the CGL (Correction of Glosso-Larynx). We inquired about the infants patterns of crying, sleeping and suckling before and after the CGL. All of the infants' symptoms improved substantially. We also investigated their mothers' affinities for their babies using MAQ questionnaires. The results before and after CGL were 83.0 and 90.9, respectively. We asked the mothers with infants who had heavy ADEL via telephone how their childcare experiences had changed after the CGL. They said that prior to their babies' operations their own mental conditions were declining due to their babies' crying, dakiguse, sleeping difficulties and suckling difficulties. The mothers' stresses were relieved by the operation. The CGL procedures improved the quality of childcare and the affection of the mothers for their babies. We conclude that this procedure is useful for preventing child abuse. |
