Abstract : [ABSTRACT] This study was investigated, firstly if the panoramic innominate (PI) line could be efficient as a reference (line) for evaluation of the positional relations of the first molars to the skull on orthopantomograms (PG), paying attention to two structures of PI line and zygomaticoalveolar crest (ZAC), and secondary the horizontal positional relations of the upper right and left first molars during the growing period using PG and cephalograms (CG). The results indicated that both the ZAC line and the ZAC point would be efficient measurement references for observation of horizontal positional movement of the upper first molars on both PG and CG, suggesting the possibility of application to orthodontic cliinical cases. It was also considered that the combined use of PG and CG is desirable for the evaluation of positional relations because the ZAC point in the former for the observation of horizontal positional movement is limited.
