Abstract　： If modern physicians and dentists are to assure patients that their knowledge and skills are the latest and that they can provide them with the very best health care available, then their diagnoses, treatments, and other judgments must be built upon knowledge and principles that are based on evidence. This is the force that has been driving forward the movement during the last 20 years or so toward evidence-based medicine (EBM) and evidence-based dentistry (EBD). The most appropriate evidence for our particular needs, however, does not always appear on a silver platter; the truth is that we must sift through a huge volume of published papers, almost all of which do not relate to our particular needs, and some of which that are of poor quality.
