Abstract : [Points] 1. Keywords have to be determined from PICO/PECO 2. Keywords should be used for both MeSH term & Text Word 3. Searches should be broad and narrow 4. Reliable evidence may be selected from the "Limits" tab [Introduction] There is an increasing demand for the the application of EBD (Evidence Based Dentistry) in daily clinical work. The best and most reliable evidence should be considered in the decision-making process. This is available through secondary published journals, such as EBD (Evidence-Based Dentistry), JEBDP (Journal of Evidence Based Dental Practice) and through the Cochrane Library. These sources of information are useful because of their simple descriptions and their easy access. However, at present the information we need in our daily practice is not always available. For some of the questions we need answers to, there exists no secondary source of information. The lack of a secondary source forces us to find other available evidence via the MEDLINE database as we strive to achieve real evidence-based practice in dentistry. Thus, the purpose of this article is to provide the reader with tips for searching the literature for information relevant to a specific clinical question using the PubMed engine to search the MEDLINE database.
