Abstract : [Abstract] Bone regeneration therapy has been examined with various techniques and it is considered that PRP promotes angiogenesis and bone regeneration. In this study, microvascular changes and bone formation after synthetic grafting using PRP were examined under a scanning electron microscope. Microvascular resin cast is a method of observing the vasculature and produces clear, three-dimensional images for observation through the complete infusion of an injected synthetic resin up to the capillaries. Six beagle dogs were used as the experimental animals. The mandibular bone of the premolars of four teeth on both sides was extracted and the sockets were divided into four groups. PRP and synthetic bone graft material (TCP; Tricalcium Phosphate) were applied to the sockets on one side and those on the other side were used as the control. In the tooth extraction group, vascular regeneration was promoted by applying PRP to the tooth socket and newly formed bone began to grow between the blood vessels. However, without a scaffold, PRP doesn't recover bone height. In the TCP graft group with the application of PRP, regeneration of rich blood vessels was seen around the TCP granules. The absorption of TCP had advanced clearly, trabeculae had reproduced and, because the TCP had functioned as a scaffold, bone height was recovered. These results suggest that application of PRP greatly promotes the regeneration of blood vessels and bone.
