Abstract : [Abstract]The purpose of this study is to obtain information on dental development by establishing standard values for the numbers of emerging teeth. This analysis was carried out using longitudinal dental casts taken from thirty male and female schoolchildren, ranging from 1st-year elementary school to 3rd-year junior high school, in Japan. The percentiles of tooth counts were calculated for all subjects using the percentile method, and new charts were made of the developmental curve of the erupted teeth. As these reference standards serve as a basis for comparison and assist in the understanding of abnormal development patterns, the use of percentiles seems to be a very practical way to evaluate dental development in child health practice.
