Abstract : [Abstract] An evaluation was performed of the usability and the toxicity of two dispersing agents: poly (oxyethylene) sorbitan monooleate (PS80) and tetraoleic acid poly (oxyethylene) sorbate (430N), and three solvents: ethanol (EtOH), dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO), and glycerol (GLYC), used in the dispersion of hydrophobic monomers. PS80 and 430N showed toxicity at low concentrations and were not effective as dispersing agents. It was not possible to attain a satisfactory result using the three solvents as dispersing solvents. EtOH was volatile, DMSO was considerably toxic at concentrations beyond 1 mass % and GLYC was highly viscous.
