Abstract : | Restorative procedures such as cavity preparation are performed to remove the infected dentin and make space for restorative materials. Cavity preparation induces destructive changes in odontoblasts at the affected site as well as acute inflammatory reaction. Once inflammatory reaction ceases, pulpal healing process begins to result in the tertiary dentin formation, irrespective of the survival or degeneration of the suffered odontoblasts. The inflammatory reaction associated with micro-leakage to delay pulpal healing can be magnified by incomplete sterilization of the prepared cavity, if mechanical removal of the infected dentin is incomplete. |
