Abstract : [ABSTRACT] We examined the result from the 2009 oral health check survey done by Kanagawa Dental College Southeast Asia Support (KDC-SAS) to determine the area to operate a continuous dental caries prevention program. We needed to consider the aspects such as the support from local governments, local volunteers, local economic and political situations, the interest in dental care in the area and the accommodations for volunteer dentists to determine the area for a long-term project. Our research shows a high number of people with dental caries in all the areas we did volunteer dental activities in 2009. Our survey shows that even the younger children had carious lesions in the first molars. In spite of the request and necessity of the prevention program for all 3 areas, we chose the Watswangk Arrom School in south Rawai area, Phuket, Thailand, as it fits the above conditions most and it is the most appropriate place to operate the long-term caries prevention program.
