Abstract : [ABSTRACT] To improve the bond strength and durability against hydrolysis of the silica-resin interface, novel silane coupling agent having a hydrophobic fluoroalkyl group and phenyl group, 3-{4-[di(trifluoromethyl)-4'-methacryloyloxyphenylmethyl]phenoxy}propyltrimethoxy silane (p-MBFBS) was synthesized. Used silane coupling agents were 3-methacryloyloxypropyltrimethoxysilane (3-MPS), nonafluorohexyltrimethoxysilane (4F), 3-(4-methacryloyloxyphenyl)propyltrimethoxysilane (p-MBS), and p-MBFBS in this study. The concentration of each silane solution was adjusted at 2 mass% with ethanol. The tensile bond strength of the resin composites to glass plates modified with each silane was measured. The tensile bond strength of the resin composites to glass plates modified with the 4F/3-MPS, p-MBS were significantly higher compared with the 3-MPS after water immersion for 360 days respectively, and the strength of the p-MBFBS was significantly higher than the 3-MPS after 180 days. From these results, it is suggested that the silane coupling agent containing both hydrophobic fluoroalkyl group or/and phenyl group has better water resistance than the 3-MPS.
