Abstract : [Abstract] We examined how useful the scenario writing was for the students' orthodontic knowledge along with understanding of the communication skills at the orthodontic consultation with parents and practice of the orthodontic appliance. We conducted a survey on the 4-year students at Kanagawa Dental College for 3 years. We gave a lecture about the malocclusion, the treatment and communication skills prior to the scenario writing study. Afterwards, we had students study by themselves under the theme of scenario writing about the orthodontic consultation and explanation of the orthodontic appliance. A week after, we did a role-playing according to the theme and examined the effectiveness of scenario writing by the unidentified questionnaire. The scenario writing study is difficult; however 95% of them appreciated its effectiveness. In regard to continuing self-studying using the scenario writing, more than 90% approved of it. Also, more than 90% answered it is highly effective for learning the orthodontic knowledge. And, 90% found that the scenario writing before the role-playing was useful. Findings showed the improvement of the learning affectivity at the both-pre-and post-tests.
