Abstract : | The changes of histamine, catecholamines, 5-hydroxy-indolacetic acid in urine and serotonin in blood were investigated in course of elapsed time after the extraction of upper incisors in adult ddY mice, while these of body weight, water consumption and urine volume were also observed. After teeth extraction, serotonin level was immediately increased within 2 hours and the extremely high serotonin level was maintained for 64 hours, but 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid began to increase in urine on the 3rd day later. Norepinephrine and dopamine in urine were progressively decreased in comparison with sham operated group and yet these changes did not recover to both of the normal value. However, epinephrine was increase contrary on 2 nd day later after teeth extraction. The increase of urinary epinephrine induced by teeth extraction was not only completely disappeared but also extremely decreased in PCPA treated mice. Norepinephrine and dopamine were remarkably decreased in PCPA treated mice, too. Urinary histamine reached the maximum on the next day following teeth extraction and then slightly decreased in proportion as the course of time. The changes of body weight, water consumption and urin volume after teeth extraction were more increased in PCPA treated mice than in non-treated mice. These results suggest that the most reactive biogenic amines induced by teeth extraction is serotonin which may stimulate the release of epinephrine, and the increase of histamine may be considered as a necessary consequence of stress due to extraction. |
